It's another reason to regard a copy of The Finished Mystery as a worthwhile investment: it's fun to refer to some of its most remarkable passages -- many of them some of the nuttiest the WTBTS has ever published--- in casual conversation with JWs.

WOW!! The Finished Mystery SCAN showing Jesus was WORSHIPPED and was THE GOD!!!
by Lady Liberty inunbelievable!!.
just came across this tidbit from the finished mystery, from the organization, in the early years.
keep in mind that these bible students were supposedly selected out of all mankind on the earth to feed christs sheep at the proper time, with "spiritual food"...here is some of that "food" that was supposedly from christ himself:.

No Shorts and T-Shirts After Convention - Remember?
by mentallyfree31 indoes everyone remember a few years back, when the km directed that nobody should wear shorts after the convention while out and about?
i don't have the reference, but i remember a brother in our hall made a comment that night at the meeting while it was being discussed.
he was a very poor brother, with 3 children.

The solution is simple: NEVER wear a JW badge; then nobody can attribute what you're wearing -- or not wearing, as the case may be -- to your religion! In this instance, as in so many others, JWs, especially the young, are tuning them out in droves.

A question for former Bethelites
by JeffT inwhat do the wives of the top guys, particularly the gb, do with themselves?
do they have "jobs" of some sort?
are they like uber-co's wifes (boy, that raises some interesting mental images of nosey busy bodies)?
-
Room 215
It would be unfair to characterise all the wives of long-time Bethelites based on cases I witnessed when I was there. Nontheless, I knew of the wives of two very highly placed men who had drinking problems serious enough to require intervention, and at least two cases of 40-something married women hitting on young Bethelites.

Sexual Repression 101. Pure WT Gold: Wednesday's Daily Text.
by Open mind inwednesday's daily text was a masterpiece.
each sentence just added another layer of sexual guilt and repression.
i could go off for at least another 500 words but i'll stop.. .

Most of their rhetoric these days is not God-focused but about behavior modification or CONTROL of the flock, i.e. how JWs should think and behave, and almost never discuss God, his nature, the question of God's permission of evil, etc., etc. Almost nothing about church history: How many JWs know anything about the Bible canon and how it was established? Or how to defend their beliefs effective against critics who argue that Isaiah for example, was written by two different authors (deutero-Isaiah), or that the book of Daniel is a post-exilic work (written much later than claimed)? What happens when they're confronted (or blind-sided is a better word) when a household knows more than he/she should about the Society's history?

Jehovah's Witnesses---A Religion That Does Nothing For Anyone
by minimus inthe reality is: jehovah's witnesses benefit no one but themselves!.
they don't contribute to society.
they refuse to get involved in local interests because that would constitute violating their neutrality.. if sexual abuse allegations are made amongst their members, unless two witnesses can attest to the molestation, they refuse to get the "superior authorities" involved.. they claim to be doing their neighbors a "life saving" work but the reality is that they simply are pests to their "householders".. they are a tax free "religion" and they do not pay taxes.. they are judgmental people and regard the "world" as "worldly" and in the "power of the wicked one".. and if the individual members do not conform to the organization's dictates, they might very well be "shunned" and regarded as "dead".. why anyone would want to be a jehovah's witness is beyond me..

Well done, as always, Blondie.... and Mary, I think you hit the nail on the head when you pointed out the "Jehovah this" and Jehovah that" offhand use of God's name actually devalues and cheapens it....and casts him as some sort of minor deity

Holy spirit reveals stuff through GB--July 15, 2010 WT

would all anointed christians shine?.
in a sense, yes, for all christians would participate.

Room 215
" When the time comes to clarify a spiritual matter in our day, holy spirit helps responsible REPRESENTATIVES (NOT necessarily "members")of “the faithful
and discreet slave” at world headquarters, ETC.".... This is a very revealing statement as the choice of words suggest what is generally known, i.e that few, if any GB members- or any anointed Bethelite, for that matter, has anything to do with the writing of WT literature

All true, Minimus. The one question that begs an answer is :"what kept us all wrapped up in it for as long as it did?"

If still "in", how do you feel when praying in front of a group despite being in doubt of your beliefs?
by Crisis of Conscience init happened to me this weekend.
i'm curently "active" and had some long time friends from a different congregation over for dinner.. we went through the formality of praying before the meal.
normally or rather lately i've been passing it off to someone else.

I'm sure one can articulate a prayer in good conscience without making reference to the "faithful and discreet slave," "governing body," "closeness of The End" or any dubious WT tenet he/she considers offensive or adulatory.
